Recreational Road

Environmental Conservation

The single lane, 2 mile roadway is aesthetically integrated into its natural setting. The selection criteria include areas that offer natural sound barriers and minimal environmental disruption. This approach not only adheres to county planning concerns but also promotes sustainability.

To enhance safety and manage risk, the roadway will be designed for single-lane use, with only one car on a roadway section at a time. This approach eliminates the risk of head-on collisions and side-swipes between vehicles, allowing drivers to focus on their driving skills.

State of the art design

UK consultants Driven International will design the road, construction, and materials to state-of-the-art standards that equal or surpass CalTrans. The design philosophy for WestRing's roadway will be dynamic, emphasizing a challenging yet safe cycling and driving experience with many curves and altitude changes. The goal is to keep speeds low, but interest and fun high.

The tolerances of a driving course require high performance civil engineering, with strict design parameters with regard to elevation changes and cross fall in the road. We use in-house civil engineering software to develop models to ensure that road gradients on your track are both in line with regulatory requirements and also suitable for the vehicles.

Noise monitoring and management

WestRing will be sited within a natural bowl area surrounded by hills and trees for maximum noise reduction. A minimum of 150 acres creates a buffer to ensure that several acres lie between the course roadway and the nearest habitation. The site will be carefully evaluated and measured with the outcome of noise testing reports to be included as a contingency in the land purchase agreement. The orientation and topography of the site will be optimized for noise reduction, with additional measures such as strategic placement of plantings to act as sound barriers.

A permanent noise monitoring system will be installed to monitor noise levels continuously, ensuring compliance with local regulations. Initial noise assessments will establish ambient levels to inform the design and placement of noise-reducing features. Expert advice will be sought to implement the most effective noise control measures and to ensure that the venue meets or exceeds all regulatory standards.
